ECCLESIASTICAL RESTORATION

THE CHURCH OF ST. JEAN BAPTISTE, NEW YORK CITY, NY

The rich tradition of ecclesiastical stained glass traces its history from the earliest surviving examples in the 11th century cathedral in Augsburg to the work of modern artists producing new and exciting effects of light, color and form.

Stained glass first flowered in Medieval times. The jewel-like faceted colors of the great windows still illuminate the dark interiors of European cathedrals and churches. Following the destruction of the Reformation, stained glass reemerged with the 19th-century Gothic Revival in Europe and the United States.

There are few people who are not moved and inspired as they gaze up at splendid ecclesiastical stained-glass windows. Careful maintenance is required to keep these windows in condition. Mainentance pays off in the long run. If these windows become bowed, valuable pieces of painted glass often break under the strain requiring costly replacement.

If damage has occurred to your windows by age or vandalism, the Art Glass Studio artists faithfully recreate the original design using time-honored techniques of glass staining, painting, etching, etc. All care is given to reproducing the glass artwork so that it is as accurate a replacement as possible.

ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, BEACON, NY Occassionally, original panels must be rehabilitated. Where redesigning or alteration of existing windows is required, the creative talents of our design staff will allow you to make the necessary changes while doing justice to the original artist's work.
